Expanding the Online Presence of Skateboarding Legend Alan Gelfand
Alan Gelfand invented the ollie — the most fundamental trick in skateboarding history. Over 6 months, we transformed his bare Knowledge Panel and updated his Wikipedia page to represent both his skateboarding career and his life as a race car driver.
About Alan Gelfand
Alan “Ollie” Gelfand is a professional skateboarder from Hollywood, Florida, who changed the sport forever. In 1978, he invented the ollie — a no-hands aerial trick that became the foundation of modern street and vert skateboarding. Without the ollie, tricks like the kickflip, heelflip, and virtually every street trick that followed would not exist.
Beyond skateboarding, Alan is also an accomplished race car driver — a side of his career that was largely absent from his online presence before working with us.
Despite his enormous influence on skateboarding culture, Alan's digital footprint did not reflect his full story. He approached Quantum Wave Publishing to change that.

The Challenge
Google Knowledge Panel
Alan's Knowledge Panel was extremely bare. It had no images, no videos, and only referenced his skateboarding career. There was no mention of his race car driving, no links to social profiles, and the description was minimal.
For someone who invented one of the most important tricks in action sports history, his Knowledge Panel did not come close to representing who he is.
Wikipedia Page
Alan already had an existing Wikipedia page, but it was outdated and incomplete. It focused narrowly on the invention of the ollie without covering the broader scope of his career and achievements.
The page needed to be updated with properly sourced information to reflect his full story — including his transition into motorsport.
Key Issues Identified
Our Approach
Over the course of 6 months on a monthly retainer, we executed a structured campaign to rebuild Alan's digital presence from the ground up.
Research & Audit
We conducted a deep audit of Alan's existing online presence, identifying gaps in his Knowledge Panel, Wikipedia page, and broader entity footprint. We researched his full career history — from inventing the ollie in 1978 to his race car driving career — and compiled credible sources for every claim.
Wikipedia Updates
We carefully updated Alan's existing Wikipedia page with properly sourced, neutral content. This included expanding sections on his skateboarding legacy, adding information about his motorsport career, and ensuring all citations met Wikipedia's editorial standards.
Knowledge Panel Optimisation
We worked to enrich Alan's Google Knowledge Panel by strengthening entity signals across authoritative sources. This involved structured data improvements, image and video submissions, and building the entity connections that Google uses to populate Knowledge Panels.
Ongoing Monitoring & Refinement
Throughout the 6-month retainer, we continuously monitored both the Wikipedia page and Knowledge Panel for changes. We refined content, responded to any editorial feedback, and ensured the improvements remained stable over time.

Key Takeaways
Knowledge Panels require consistent entity signals
Google doesn't populate Knowledge Panels from a single source. It requires consistent, structured information across multiple authoritative platforms.
Wikipedia updates must follow strict editorial standards
Every claim needs to be supported by independent, reliable sources. Our team ensured all updates met these standards, which is why the changes remained stable.
A 6-month retainer allows for proper, sustainable results
Knowledge Panel and Wikipedia improvements don't happen overnight. The monthly retainer model allowed us to work methodically — researching, implementing, monitoring, and refining over time.
Your online presence should reflect your full story
Alan is more than just the inventor of the ollie. He's also a race car driver. Before our work, only half his story was being told online. Now, both careers are properly represented.
